30-Minute Thursday

How did you all do? From the looks of things, very well! :)

Here's my scalloped-sports-sticker page. (The stickers are the patterned paper-looking borders under the title and over on the lower left... they are from BasicGrey and are my absolute favorite product from them ever! Link to come!).

This page totally cracks me up. The pics, and also the title. I am quite punny, as you probably already know, and I especially like thinking of clever twists of phrase or word for the titles of my layouts. Often, I cannot really complete the design until I know what funny title I am going to use. Kinsey didn't get this one. I had to explain it about ten times. And still, "But Mommy, it sounds like you're HITTING her. You know, sock-her?"

Yeah, well.

Perhaps my humor doesn't always amuse anyone but me, but it's MY scrapbook page, darnit! ;)

Maybe I'd better quit while I'm ahead and announce a winner or two:

Sandra created an awesome soccer (NOT soc-her...soc-him?) page... in German, no less! I guess that would actually make it FOOTBALL... but I'm going to stop myself right now before I get in trouble.

Jennifer did her first-ever challenge, as did Maile, whose page made me giggle out loud...

and Laura T. gets a prize for the widest interpretation of "sports!"

And since I have to go up to the post office counter to send Sandra her overseas goodies, why don't I just add in a lil' something for Elina, too? (Another soccer -- or "futaaja" -- page... it truly is a popular sport!).

And here's one for sockiepuppetsmom, who's afraid she might be too "digi" for ScrapHappy but is simply perfect, just the way she is. :)

Okay, ladies, you know the drill -- send me your addresses! I leave Friday for Mexico, so it may take me until next week to get your goodies out.

Now, for NEXT week... let's do:

-a size you don't usually scrap in (if you do 12x12, try 8.5x11 or 6x12, my new fun favorite!)

30-Minute Thursday

Thanks for participating, my fellow scraphappy-ites!

Many of you said that yellow was a tough color for you. You know what's interesting... I never would have thought it would be one of "my" colors, but as I look over my scrapbooking from the past 6 months or so, I've used a LOT of yellow cardstock! Funny that I now consider it a "neutral." I mix it with everything from a deep red to pink to green to white to all of the above!

Here's my layout from last week:

In fact, next week I just might give a surprise prize (say THAT 10 times fast!) to someone who is caught leaving kind comments to a fellow scrapphappy-type (we need a name for our band of merry maidens... ScrapHaps? ScrapHappians? Hmmm... needs some work).

30-Minute Thursday

I bet you thought you were free from my 30-minute Thursday tortures! Nope, just recovering from a lot of hectic-ness. ;)

In fact, I have been dreaming up NEW levels of torture challenge for you... and here it is, the first-ever SCRAPHAPPY SCRAPALONG!

Here are the rules:

-Each Thursday I will set out rules for creating a layout.
-Create a page following the rules IN 30 MINUTES OR LESS.
-Post a link to your layout in the comments for that day. Links posted by the following Wednesday are eligible for a drawing for fabulous prizes
-I will post my version of the challenge the following Thursday -- I want you to create your own without being influenced by mine.

The point?
-To create a layout in 30 minutes
-To see how creative you can be within a set of instructions
-To see how different everyone's pages look, based on the same basic components.

Sound like fun? Then let's get started!

Create a page in 30 minutes or less using:
-one piece of yellow cardstock
-two photos
-three pieces of patterned paper
-four brads or eyelets

You can use MORE than this, but these are the minimal "ingredients."

Ladies, take your marks, get set...!

It's 30-Minute Thursday! It's a great chance to get those muscles warmed and stretched for a fast start off the block for the Get a L.O.A.D. of This Challenge starting January 1 (and no, registration is not open yet at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Hopefully in the next few days!).

You should recognize these photos. Aren't they cute? :) I had to use them again, since my Christmas cards are nowhere near completed. Maybe I can just direct everyone to this page.

This page was done with goodies from the ZingBOOM kit I reviewed on the podcast the other day. I made a ton of teacher gifts (which I will post photos of later) as well as some cards, and I still have stuff leftover! For this page, I added my own cardstock, brads, and KI "softies" for the mint-green arrows.

Your challenge for next week -- use arrows on a page! Make your own or use pre-made ones. Just have an arrow in there somewhere!

Run run run as fast as you can...

...Good thing it's 30-Minute Thursday, because that's about all the time I have today!

When I get stressed (like I have been for the past few weeks -- could anyone tell??), I NEED to scrapbook. Even if it's only to sit down and play with the papers on my desk and reorganize my supplies one more time... I need that creative time and space. That's why 30-minute projects are so awesome; they fit right in there!

This week I've been dealing with:

-Husband out of town
-Holiday stuff
-The G'awful (g*d-awful) California Missions project (a requisite for every fourth grader in California which would be quite fun if it didn't hit the week before school gets out for Christmas)
-Two articles for Simple
-Laying the groundwork for the "Get a LOAD of This" layout-a-day challenge for January
-Knitting a few presents
-Technological issues
-Kids' Christmas parties next week (thank goodness I am only room mom for one)
-Christmas cards that still have not been sent
-and a partridge in a pear tree.

Let me say, I am a wee  bit crabby. Making this page helped.

I find three 4x6" photos to be very difficult to scrap. Three on a 12x12 page feels a tad crowded, but three on a double-page spread seems too empty unless I have a ton of journaling. Seeing as this is a 30-minute assignment, I went with three on one page and put the journaling on sticker tags.

Your challenge: Use rub-ons on a page. Now, isn't that easy? I could have told you to use 10 photos on a page (like I had to for a recent Simple assignment). But I'm nice. Crabby, but nice.

I bet you were wondering if you'd get a week off, seeing as I've been so swamped lately... but no! Because I didn't have a Christmas Countdown bonus project this week, this project is going to do double-duty. Not only can you create it in small crevices of time between your package wrapping and nervous breakdowns, you can also give it as a gift! Yippee!

I created these papier mache letters for our Christmas card photo shoot, and then they will find a home on our mantel, surrounded by greenery. Or at least that is the plan.

These take just 15 minutes or so to create, so those of you who are rolling your eyes at the idea of scrapbooking-based home decor projects, just leave that attitude at the door, please! And stop making faces or your face will get stuck that way.

I got the letters (which are about 9"  high) at TCSTSNBN. They were about $2 each. I thought about painting them but decided that covering them in paper with a coat of sparkly glittery Mod Podge would be much more fun -- and time-effective.

All you need to do is trace the letters backward on a sheet of cardstock (all three fit on one sheet). Put down a heavy layer of glittery Mod Podge directly on the surface of the letter, place the cardstock cut-out, and add another heavy layer of glittery Mod Podge on top. Let dry, and voila!

You will notice in the "J" above that there is a little buckle in the paper. That is because I got stingy and did not add enough Mod Podge UNDER the paper. Coat it on there, really really really thick (but don't go crazy!).

I will share our Christmas card shoot as soon as I do it. ;)

30-Minute Thursday

HHHHola!

Bet you thought that just because I am in Utah, you get a week off. No way, chicas!

Here you are... American Crafts all the way, baby! You have heard it a thousand times, but I'll say it again... if you stick with one product line it will be easier to mix and match. I know, I know, I'm not the matchy-matchy type either. I really enjoy pulling a little of this in with a little of that. I resisted sticking with kits or product lines because I was afraid that my page would look like everyone else's. But it just tain't true! I LOVE this page, even though I challenged myself to stick with one manufacturer. It made life much easier to know I HAD to limit myself. And when you are speed scrapping, that's a huge plus.

So your challenge for this week is to create a 30-minute page with just one product line. Go for it!
