A Belated Birthday Present

The best thing about birthdays is that you can celebrate them again and again. And on Friday, I got to celebrate mine in a great way... by meeting KRISTIE and her awesome husband Bob. They were in town for Stitches West, a big fiber workshop and festival (for those of you who don't know). (Note: Click on the photos to get an enlarged, higher-quality view!)

Bob was so sweet to accompany his beautiful wife... I have to tell you, you sure don't see a lot of men at these events! But he braved the hordes of knitters in good grace, offering opinions on yarn colors and staying unbelievably calm. I can just imagine the conversation that went on earlier.

Kristie: Honey, I want to drive to San Jose for the weekend.

Bob: That sounds like fun. Got something particular in mind? Going to a Sharks game? Heading up to the City for a Giants game? Or seeing the A's play in Oakland?

K: Well, no, there's this knitting "thing."

B: What kind of "thing?"

K: Well, a bunch of knitters get together and take classes and buy more yarn.

B: Hmmm. I guess I'm free that weekend.

K: Oh, and we're going to meet up with my friend Lain.

B: Lain? Have I met her?

K: No. And technically, I haven't either.

B: What do you mean, you haven't met her?

K: Well, I haven't met her in REAL life. I e-mail with her all the time.

B: ???

K: ...And I read her blog. She's really funny. She SEEMS fairly normal.

B: ???

K: (in a small voice) I met her on the Internet.

B: !!!

Yet despite that (imaginary) conversation, he came. I originally thought he couldn't stand to be away from his wife for more than a day or so...but now that I think about it, he probably just wanted to make sure I wasn't a psycho freak! Well, Bob, whatcha think??? ;)

Sometimes when you "meet" someone on the Internet, you're not quite sure if you'll mesh in person as well as you do on the screen. But when I met Kristie IRL, it was like we'd known each other for a long time.

We had just a couple of hours to cruise the show floor and find some fibery fun... and YES I did purchase just a few items. (Bob made me do it!)

And one more photo for the road... Kristie and me. Boy, it was fun. We're already planning next  year's trip!

I was at Stiches on Saturday and Sunday. I had a great time. Next year we will have to meetup. :)

I just LOVE that in the background of the picture of Bob and Kristie it says, "No Photography Allowed." You totally planned that didn't you?

Lain, we had such a great time meeting you & the hours just went by WAY to quickly! Your darling personality comes out great in your blog, but I must say that you are even sweeter in person. I loved the time we had together although it was way too short.

I can't wait for us to meet up again!
